Toastabag Technology - It Simply Works!

Feeding the growing child
Just like adults, young children need food for energy, as well as for nutrients such as protein, carbohydrate, vitamins and minerals. This is to make sure their bodies work properly and can repair themselves. However, children need a lot more energy and nutrients for their body size than adults.
Toddlers can eat the same food as adults but, before they're two years old, children can't eat large amounts of food at one sitting. So until then, it's especially important they have meals and snacks packed with calories and nutrients (sometimes called 'nutrient-dense foods') such as:

  • Full fat milk and dairy foods
  • Meat
  • Eggs

Snacks and children
About one-third of the diet should be made up of starchy foods like bread. Toasted sandwiches are a popular choice and for a healthier option, use wholemeal bread with low fat fillings such as lean meats like ham or turkey or fish such as tuna or Edam or mozzarella cheese with tomato.

How can we help?
A toasted sandwich can be made in around three minutes in a Toastabag and, unlike other methods of making toasted sandwiches, the need to butter the outside of the bread is eliminated thus cutting down on fat intake. To make things a little more interesting for children, different breads such as bagels, Pitta bread, naans and wraps can be used.

Main meals and children
By the time they are five years old, young children should be eating family food but not those foods containing too much saturated fat. Children will always have their favourite meals and what is commonly thought of as fast food for adults can be a healthy meal for children, but how good it is for you depends on some choices.

How can we help?
Cooking small portion meals for toddlers and young children will mean preheating the oven or grill before cooking time starts. Children's favourites such as pizza, oven chips, lean burgers, fishcakes, sausages and chicken nuggets can all be cooked in a Toastabag, eliminating the need to preheat the oven or to add any extra fats.

HOT TIP! Keep your toastabag in the toaster all the time and it will take care of the kids' mess while saving you time - and more importantly stop your (and the kids'!) temptation to stick a fork in the toaster to free a piece of food. The food will simply be contained in the toastabag!
