Healthy Eating

What is healthy eating?
For the last 20 or 30 years, nutritionists, dieticians and doctors have recommended the same basic principles to guide everyone towards eating better. Research confirms that we should ignore fad diets and follow pointers to reduce the risk of illness and manage weight.

  • Eat five portions of fruit and vegetables everyday.
  • Change the way you cook: grill instead of frying, and steam instead of boiling.
  • Reduce the amount of fat and sugar in your diet.
  • Increase the amount of starchy food.
Combine these points with more physical activity to improve your overall health.

Snacks and healthy eating
Demanding lifestyles and the need to eat 'on the go' mean that eating between meals is now the norm. Snacking is often seen as unhealthy but, if you know what to eat, it can be an important part of a healthy and varied diet.
If you asked the average person to define the word 'snack,' they'd probably say it meant a bag of crisps or a chocolate bar. Certainly, since their invention in the 19th century, crisps have grown to be the world's favourite savoury snack. Meanwhile, as a nation, we spend millions of dollars on chocolate every year.
Though snacking is often associated with eating fatty and sugary foods, a snack is basically something light to eat, instead of or in between breakfast, lunch or dinner.

How can we help?
Toastabags are made from a woven glass material coated with non-stick PTFE. It's this non-stick quality that enables toasted sandwiches and other snacks to be cooked in a toastabag without the need to add any extra fats. Toastabags enable you to cook fresh meat and fish to perfection in their own juices without the need for oils.
A toasted sandwich can be made in around three minutes in a toastabag and, unlike other methods of making toasted sandwiches, the need to butter the outside of the bread is eliminated, thus cutting down on fat intake.
Fresh salmon can be cooked in a toastabag, serve this with a fresh green salad and you have a healthy low fat snack in around four minutes.

HOT TIP! Keep your toastabag in the toaster all the time and it will take care of the mess while saving you time - and more importantly stop the temptation to stick a fork in the toaster to free a piece of food. The food will simply be contained in the toastabag!
